China 4Kx2K TV is expected to lead the market

Currently, the display industry is competing to launch 4Kx2K TVs of more size, and it will be used for larger-scale production, and even 4Kx2K OLED TVs. In addition to Japan and South Korea's leading brands such as Sony, Lucky, Samsung and Sharp, other Japanese brands, China's six brands, and value-oriented Vizio and Funai also advance toward this technology. In addition to the vertical integration of major brands, panel suppliers such as AUO and Innolux are also working with several OEMs. In addition, the broadcasting test and content standard formulation of 4Kx2K TV programs have also begun.

Paul Gray, Director of TV Markets and Technology Research at NPD DisplaySearch, said that the entire supply chain has begun to invest in 4Kx2K TVs, and panel makers are now producing 50-inch-inch 4Kx2K panels, further boosting TV production. The content of the program is very important for the market application of 4Kx2K TV. TV manufacturers worry that the delay of the program content will affect the marketing of 4Kx2K TV, just as the 3D TV has encountered.

Paul Gray pointed out that vendors’ investment in program content has started to ensure that there will be no delay. At this year's CES show, some suppliers have already issued 4Kx2K patents for streaming media and download services, but the transition of existing satellite and cable services will still take some time.

China is expected to become the leading market for the 4Kx2K TV market, and shipments are expected to increase from 330,000 units in 2013 to 2.67 million units in 2016. The North American market followed, with 2 million units shipped in 2016.

NPD DisplaySearch expects 4Kx2K TVs to have the highest penetration rates in China, Japan and Western Europe, as consumers in these regions prefer the latest high-end TV products. On the other hand, North American consumers usually wait until prices drop before purchasing new-format TVs, such as 4Kx2K TVs. However, because of the large demand for large-size TVs in this North American market, there are still great market opportunities.
