Taiwan Central University developed high-efficiency LED street lights

The Central University of Taiwan recently developed high-efficiency LED street lights to ensure that the light source only illuminates the target range, and also reduces light damage and glare, while at the same time bringing out the energy-saving advantages of LED street lights.

Sun Qingcheng, a professor of optoelectronics at the Central University, said that streetlights in urban areas are often used inefficiently. Because the light source illuminates the non-target range, most of the light radiates into the night sky, and the research team develops new lighting system designs. High-performance LEDs ensure that the light source only illuminates the target range and avoids illuminating the home or the night sky.

The lighting system developed by the team has good adaptability to different street lighting designs. Sun Qingcheng pointed out that the design can flexibly adapt to different lighting needs while maintaining extremely high optical efficiency, so it can display high energy efficiency and uniform lighting characteristics in all kinds of street lanes and roads.

In addition to reducing light and glare, the new lighting design has energy savings. Sun Qingcheng said that high-speed LEDs can save an additional 10% to 50% compared to traditional street lamps, and the module consists of only four parts, which has the advantage of assembly.

Sun Qingcheng said that they will complete the prototype development of the street lamp within three to six months, and hope to officially put it into production next year.

Absolute Encoder

Absolute rotary Encoder measure actual position by generating unique digital codes or bits (instead of pulses) that represent the encoder`s actual position. Single turn absolute encoders output codes that are repeated every full revolution and do not output data to indicate how many revolutions have been made. Multi-turn absolute encoders output a unique code for each shaft position through every rotation, up to 4096 revolutions. Unlike incremental encoders, absolute encoders will retain correct position even if power fails without homing at startup.
