Shanghai Oriental Sports Center is located on the east bank of the Huangpu River, near the Expo Site, south of the Chuanyang River and west of Jiyang Road. The entire sports center consists of a comprehensive gymnasium, swimming pool, outdoor diving pool, and news center. The total investment of the project is about RMB 2 billion and the total construction area is 163,800 square meters. The project was established in July 2008 as a key project of the Shanghai Municipal Government in 2010.
The Oriental Sports Center Comprehensive Gymnasium is the main venue for the 14th FINA World Championships in 2011. The total number of fixed and active seats can reach 18,000. The comprehensive gymnasium can not only build a temporary swimming pool, but also build ice in the future according to actual needs. The sports venue, basketball court, gymnastics competition venue, etc., fully integrate the functions of the on-site pavilion.
