Osram, a lighting company of the Siemens Group, announced on the evening of November 30 that OSRAM plans to cut more than 10% of its employees to achieve the goal of saving 1 billion euros ($1.3 billion) in costs and improving profitability.
Siemens said that as the lighting market is accelerating the transformation of semiconductor products, OSRAM is advancing the company's transformation. As traditional light bulbs begin to transform into LED bulbs, OSRAM is currently facing enormous challenges.
At present, Osram has a total of 39,000 employees worldwide. In the past year, OSRAM has c1900 people, and this time it will cut 4,700 jobs, of which 4,300 are overseas.
OSRAM is planning to save €1 billion in costs by 2015, half of which should come from improving the procurement process. The plan is similar to that of Siemens, which Siemens said this month will cut costs of 6 billion euros in two years, half of which comes from procurement.
