Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE ticker symbol: VSH) today introduced the use of SMC DO-214AB package of new series of surface-mount TRANSZORB bi-directional transient voltage suppressor (TVS) --- SMC3K?. With a surge capability of 3kW at 10/1000μs, these devices are used in automotive and telecom applications.

The new SMC3K series in SMC package offers twice the surge capability of traditional 1.5kW devices, increasing design flexibility and compatibility. In addition, this TVS' low stress, symmetrical lead frame design provides the high reliability required for automotive applications.
AEC-Q101 certified, these devices protect sensitive electronic equipment from voltage transients introduced by system inductive load switching and lightning, lightning surge protection for LNB and telecom power lines, and automotive motors and Inductive surge protection of the battery power cord.
The SMC3K series includes 19 devices with an off-state voltage of 22V to 78V. The device's peak pulse inrush current is 23.8A ~ 84.5 A, the highest clamping voltage is 35.5V ~ 126V, with very fast response time and low incremental surge resistance, operating temperature is -55 ° C ~ +150 ° C.
The SMC3K series meets the MSL Level 1 standard specified by J-STD-020, and the highest peak value of LF is 260 °C. This TVS device is compliant with the halogen-free regulations of RoHS and IEC 61249-2-21, as well as WEEE 2002/96/EC. TVS has an off-state voltage of 33V and below, and also meets the IEC61000-4-5 6 KV (Zs = 12 Ω) lightning surge test.
The new SMC3K series will be sampling and mass production in the first quarter of 2013, with a lead time of eight weeks for larger orders.
