A total investment of 5 billion yen Japanese daily production of rare earth and LED lamp materials in Vietnam

The reporter recently learned that Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd., Japan’s largest chemical company, will invest in Vietnam to build two factories to produce silicon-based materials and high-purity rare-earth materials for high-brightness LED lamps, with a total investment of 5 billion yen. $64 million.

According to the Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. announcement, an 80,000-square-metre rare earth separation and refinery will be established at the Tingwu Industrial Park in Hai Phong City, Vietnam. The products are mainly used for the production of electronic products. The plant, which invests 2 billion yen, is expected to handle 1,000 tons of rare earth ore each year and put into production in February 2013. The factory in Vietnam is considered to be effective in relieving the company’s dependence on rare earths in China.

At the same time, Shin-Etsu Electronic Materials Vietnam Co., Ltd. will build a 50000-square-meter factory in the industrial park in the northern part of the province of Hungwon in Vietnam to produce silicon-based materials for high-brightness LED lamps, with a total investment of 3 billion yen.
